Cell Phone

When I somehow broke my phone the weekend before last, I was forced to finally replace it. I have been putting this off as I hate all the Verizon options. I didn't want a slide phone, I didn't want one with a big shiny surface, I didn't really want a full keyboard as it makes the phone larger and I didn't want to pay lots of extra money. I find the "pearl" creepy to touch. I prefer a flip phone. No I can't change service providers... Anyway, my options were limited.

I ended up with this phone, which will ultimately be free. Here are my complaints... It doesn't seem to let me USE speed dial in spite of implementing it, it lags between when I select "send message" and when I can type thus causing way too many blank texts to be sent due to my impatience, it doesn't have T9 that I can figure out, and worst of all it doesn't let you use parentheses so I can't make smiley faces. :(

It does have a better camera than my old phone, but slightly worse battery life, which isn't that big of a deal as I tend to charge nightly anyway.

Is there a better match for me? I only use my phone to talk and text.

I've never been impressed with Verizon phones... But I have had good experiences with both LG and Samsung phones. So how about This or this.

ugh, I had this huge post then dbl-checked the link then closed the window.
1) Can yall list model names/#'s? Bc I can't see either of the links
2) Why don't you like full text keyboards? They don't make the phones that much bigger and they reduce the time texting by at least 50%.
3) I have the enV and love it to death and think you would, too.
4) Cnet reviews for Verizon

LG VX5400 and Samsung SCH-u410. And the one Sarah posted is Motorola W755.

Oh, yay, thanks!

I have an LG phone, so I also vote for Vika's LG VX5400.

You aren't supposed to charge the phones every night bc it wears out the battery, plus the phone can explode.

If you don't like LG maybe you could get a variation on the Razr?

The one I have is a variation on the Razor somehow. I was trying to stick with Motorola purely because I've had good luck in the past. I also didn't want to change chargers, which I had to do anyway.

I'll have to try and go to the store next week to check them out.

I was also thinking you can buy a Verizon-compatible phone at a different store or online, not neccessarily from Verizon. Do you have a new-every-two credit you have to use? Otherwise you might be able to get an older model that you like better as opposed to the latest and greatest with a lot of features you don't need.

Yep, I'm using new every 2... Or I used it. I just might want to switch as it is within the 30 days.

Yeah, just return the phone and get a new one. Go thru every single phone if you have to!

So I really miss being able to make smiley and frowney faces, but I did find T9 and have learned not to be so trigger happy. I don't want to pay the $20 activation fee or $10 for transferring all my info again, so I think I'll just stick it out with this phone. Next time I know much more about what I want in a phone though! I didn't even know how to choose this time...

Do you have other punctuation options? I would get a data cord and figure out how to sync your contacts to your PC so you can avoid this situation in the future.

Activation for the phone? Interesting fee. Depending on the tech guy, a lot of times they won't charge you the $10. It's their discretion to charge you or not.

Why did you have to pay activation fee? I've never had to pay an activation fee just for upgrading the phone... I'm confused.

Laura showed me where to find the parentheses this weekend. It is a pain, but worth it. ;)

$20 initiation fee if I were to exchange b/c it is a new device. They didn't charge anything the first time. Plus, my contacts were transferred for free as I'm the primary account holder.

That's not too bad if you really don't like your phone. You can get a cord that transfers them to your PC. Might be worthwhile.
