Plane Entertainment or Ways I Can Tune My Family Out (If Needed)

I would like to buy some variation on the iPod before my trip in two weeks, which means I basically have to act now.

I was going to go through Amazon using my credit card accrued gift certificates, but now I think I might go with a refurbished one purchased through the Apple Store. That way if I have issues it is more straightforward...

Is it worth it to get a 8 GB iPod Touch or should I just go with the Nano?

I love second opinions, pretty much all the time but especially when I am contemplating a large purchase.

I vote for iPod Touch. That way you can also put applications on it. Overall, I think it would be much more useful and with wifi you can even use it as a phone :)

Also, I've had great experience with apple refurbished items.

If you scroll down here there is a very handy comparison chart. You previously had a gum-stick size iPod shuffle, no? I would go for the nano- you can put applications on all ipods. The nano is lighter and costs less, and is smaller in general.

I wouldn't necessarily base your purchase on Apple's customer service being better than Amazon's. Apple's known to not really have great customer service. If you have Amazon gift cards, I would use those.

Let us know what you pick!

I'm pretty sure that applications are only for iPhone and iPod Touch. Also, I've had horrible experience with amazon things getting delivered on time. May just be me though. Both Rafe and I have recently ordered refurbished products from apple both of which were received in less than a week. In fact, his came overnight.

OK, so maybe you can't download the new applications, but you can download games, etc.

I've purchased Apple products through Best Buy just to get their warranty program, for when something goes wrong. Maybe their products are better now...

I had a 2nd generation 20GB one and a nano. I like how little the nano is, but I think the apps on the touch could be fun. I could use it like a palm type device. I think it has the calendar function.

Yes, and maps! For when you get lost :)

I love that it's "when" and not "if" you get lost. Looks like you've made your decision! I want to see it when you get it!

I do get lost. :/

I was decided. Then I remembered portability and if I go "running" a nano would be much easier. I hate big decisions related to money.
