Dress me up

Alright, the dress is tailor. Help me pick out the wedding outfit. First up is the Karanina dress with black sandals I'll also be wearing in Turko's wedding. Choice 1.
Choice 2. Same dress, different shoes. Not sure what purse I would carry with this...
Choice 3. Same dress as a strapless, would carry the Oscar clutch that's in some of the other pictures...
Choice 4. Same shoes as above plus the clutch.
Choice 5. The navy blue dress I discussed earlier. Could also work with the burgundy peep toe shoes.
Choice 6. This might give someone a headache :) Little squares instead of polka dots.Choice 7. Sarah, you might remember this one. I suppose this could also work.

Turko changed to pick your own dress?
I lean toward 1, 2 or 5.

No, still wearing a bridesmaid dress. I just meant the shoes. She wanted everyone to wear the same ones....

I think the shoes are cute!

The gold-ish shoes are the most comfortable of the three pairs. The burgundy the tallest and hardest to walk in. The black will probably give me blisters as they are brand new and I really hate that sort of back strap.... Any ideas on how to make it stay up?

Then probably wear the gold ones.

I have bought a generic version of these and they helped my heel straps stay in place.

Neat, where do you find them?

I like 5 or 6. Is the event black tie? Is it inside or out? Do you know the bridesmaids colors?

You might need to break in those shoes for Turko's wedding anyway...and unless it's black tie and/or the bridesmaids' dresses are black, I think black is a little morbid for weddings. Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure just Target or CVS... It was a while ago so I don't really remember.

You are really against black dresses, eh? I actually know many people who wear black to weddings... I don't know why you think it's morbid... Anyway, I haven't seen the invitations, so I don't know too m any details about the event, haha.

Hmm maybe I am against black dresses...I just think you shouldn't wear the color you wear to funerals to a wedding. But it is New York, so all black is in.

Can I look at the invitations? I want to see how they did them. :)

I do like the last one because it's very fun. Besides that, I like...#1.

What time is the wedding? If it is evening, go dressier.

I don't mind black at weddings. Liz had bridesmaids in black with red accents and it looked very chic.

They really should tell you on the invite...or ask Rafe to ask his friend.

I thought I read something about not wearing black to weddings in one of my Miss Manners books...there's a similar thing about not letting children wear black. Traditionally it's a color of mourning and come on, it's totally not a happy color!

Goodness, who makes up these rules and why? Besides, rules are made to be broken!

Sarah said...

I'm sure it makes sense, but clothing rules have not continued as much as some of the other etiquette rules. White only between Memorial and Labor Day? Same with sandals? Layering to make clothing suitable for any season? Wearing pantyhose and girdles...

Vika said...

OMG, girdles!

~A Woman In A Girdle~
Oh, how lovely the curves of a woman laced.

How many times have my fantasies embraced

a lace-covered belly and beautiful satin rear?

Give me a waist confined and I'll be near.

There is something about a cinched tight waist above a thigh

closed with metal zipper above the hook and eyes,

something about the flesh held firm

that hints at hidden ecstasy and makes me squirm.

Oh, the bottom tight and round

Give me a woman girdle bound.

That is all Spanx are really...a variation on a girdle.

J said...

Spanx anyone? It's the same thing!

No socks with sandales? Yeah that one's not made to be broken.

Black's just not a happy, celebratory color, that's all. Y'all wear what you want.

Sarah said...

Hahaha. How about corsets?

Sarah said...

Actually, since we are bridesmaids, we'll be wearing a color you want at your wedding. ;)

Vika said...

You want a poem for corsets too?

Sarah said...

Not necessary... Just the text of the girdle poem reminded of them being another society-rule about clothing.

Vika said...

How about this:

the corset felt alive
on impulse I petted it, its owner purred
i looked at all the silk rope
and the knots and thought...
this could be tedious
unless it has buttons at the front
I turned her over eagerly

only to be disappointed

Ha ha ha. Nice.

What do y'all think of this dress? I feel like it is a mix of your colors.

It's kind of cute. I'm really not huge on prints though. Depending on mood sometimes I can't wear them at all.
